Spring Training Recap

AWW Staff and Volunteer Trainers have been busy bees this spring! Many organizations have started back hosting in-person events and activities, and folks were eager to get certified (or recertified) as AWW Volunteer Monitors!

Here’s the spring recap!

AUBURN – MARCH 15

AWW Staff hosted a water chemistry monitoring field session for Natural Resource Conservation Engineering, an Auburn University Course that explores rainfall and runoff, erosion control, and they hydrology of streams.

GUNTERSVILLE – MARCH 9

AWW Staff conducted a water chemistry monitoring field session and recertification for members of Marshall County RSVP. One monitor had all of his water chemistry manuals since he joined AWW in the 90s!

AUBURN – APRIL 8

AWW Staff hosted a water chemistry monitoring field session for Science of Nature, an Auburn University Course which charges students to think critical about issues facing the natural world and provides a deep-dive into the habitats and ecosystems of Alabama.

BIRMINGHAM ZOO – MAY 6

With the assistance of Volunteer Trainer Hana Berres and Volunteer Trainer Intern, Anne Krichten, AWW Staff almost 30 new volunteers at the Birmingham Zoo.

Lunchtime talk from Troy Perry, Stormwater Specialist with the City of Birmingham, Scott Hofer, Public Health Engineer with Jefferson County, and Hana Berres, Education Training Coordinator with Jefferson County.
