Thanks to our friends and workshop sponsors at Legacy, Partners in Environmental Education, AWW’s Mona and Sydney along with Dr. Bill Deutsch got to travel down to Prattville in late June for an Alabama Rivers Educator Workshop. Alabama Rivers Educator Workshops focus on curriculum based on the book, Alabama Rivers: A Celebration & Challenge by Dr. Deutsch.
There was a slight scheduling conflict with our initial workshop venue (it wouldn’t be a true AWW educator workshop without a last-minute change of plans!), but thanks to Kacy Powell with Autauga County 4-H and Principal Joshua Cochran at Prattville Primary School, the workshop went off without a hitch at the school’s library!
We had a great group that included classroom and informal educators teaching an array of subjects and grades, including Environmental Science, Biology, History, and more!
Here’s a snapshot of our day with the educators:
The afternoon featured a relaxing float down Autauga Creek thanks to Skipp Lobmiller and volunteers from the Autauga Creek Improvement Committee.
Alabama Rivers Educator Workshops are open to educators including teachers, volunteers, and information educators. Those who complete the training will be able to use the curriculum with their students or groups and share it with other educators. If you are interested in participating in an Alabama Rivers Educator Workshop, fill out our Workshop Interest Survey and we may schedule one near you in 2024!
