2022 Workshop Highlights and Looking Forward To 2023

290 monitors were certified or recertified in 2022 by Volunteer Trainers and AWW Staff around Alabama. It’s been a wonderful and busy year!

Over 700 folks completed* our online courses, marking a great first full year of using them for our Monitoring Trainings! *Completion is defined as individuals who completed the entire course with 80% accuracy or above.

Here are some of the highlights from AWW Staff Trainings. 2023 dates are listed at the end of this post and can be found on the AWW Events Calendar.

AUBURN – FEBRUARY

AWW Staff led the first training of the year at Auburn University. The training featured a lunch and great talk on detecting illicit discharges in waterways from the City of Auburn.

ALABASTER – FEBRUARY

Sergio and Sydney led a Bacteriological Monitoring Workshop for a small lake community in Alabaster. Monitoring teams include parents with their kids!

GUNTERSVILLE – MARCH

Sergio and Sydney hosted a Water Chemistry Monitoring recertification for the long-time group, RSVP Marshall County. One monitor who has been a monitor since the beginning of the program brought all of his previous monitoring manuals!

CAMP MCDOWELL – MARCH

Mona, Sydney, and Sergio conducted Water Chemistry and Bacteriological Monitoring field sessions at Camp McDowell. Participants included educators, Extension staff, USDA Forest Service Bankhead monitors, and McDowell staff.

BIRMINGHAM – MAY

Mona, Sydney, and Volunteer Trainers Anne Kritchen and Hana Berres conducted Water Chemistry and Bacteriological Monitoring field sessions at the Birmingham Zoo. These new monitors were excited to get started!
