AWW @ EEAA 2023

AWW Program Staffers Mona and Sydney, along with former AWW Director Dr. Bill Deutsch, had a great few days learning and exploring at the 2023 Environmental Education Association of Alabama Conference at Lake Point State Park in Eufaula, AL in early February.

The EEAA Conference was a great opportunity to meet and network with amazing environmental educators across Alabama, and to learn new and exciting ways to teach kids (and adults!) about environmental stewardship. Take a look at a few of the conference highlights below.

On day two of the conference, we embarked on exciting field trips near the state park. Sydney and Dr. Deutsch adventured through the Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge on a guided hike led by Sierra and Jimmy Stiles. They spotted several waterfowl, a baby gator, and wild hogs!

Mona hopped aboard a boat to explore Lake Eufaula and their famous residents: alligators!

In the afternoon, Mona and Sydney presented information about Phase II of the 4-H AWW Project: Exploring Pathogen Pollution in Our Waters.

During the presentation, we set out to Lake Eufaula to demonstrate how to collect bacteriological samples.

On the last day of the conference, Dr. Deutsch gave a presentation about his new book, Ancient Life in Alabama, which goes into deep time to explore Alabama’s rich fossil biodiversity.
